How to Boil Mouthguards

Mouth guards are used by those who play contact sports to reduce the risk of injury or damage to your lips, tongue, mouth and teeth. Three types of mouth guards are typically available for purchase. The boil and bite mouth guard is unique in that it requires the user to boil and mold the mouth guard to the teeth before use. Properly preparing a boil and bite mouth guard is essential to getting the proper fit and protection.

  • Small pot
  • Water
  • Bowl
  • Tongs

Instructions

      Fill the pot with water, place on the stove and bring the water to a boil.

      Fill the bowl with enough cold water to submerge the mouth guard. Place the bowl near the stove.

      Submerge the mouth guard in the boiling water and allow it to boil for 30 seconds.

    • 4

      Use the tongs to remove the mouth guard from the boiling water. Briefly submerge the guard in cold water.

    • 5

      Immediately remove the mouth guard from the cold water.
