How to Tape a Stoved Finger

Whenever you engage in physical activities, chances are you might face injury more than once. Jammed fingers most often occur during ball sports, and happen when a ball comes into contact with the tip of the finger, causing it to sprain or cause injury to joints and knuckles. In order to prevent long-term injury, taping the finger is necessary to provide support for healing. Taping a finger is simple and should be done as soon as possible to begin healing quickly.

Instructions

    • 1

Trim a piece of therapeutic tape (also known as kinesiology tape) with scissors. Make sure the tape is at least 1 inch wide and as long as needed to go down the length of the injured finger, typically from 5 to 8 inches.

    • 2

Apply the tape to the injured finger using the opposite hand if possible, or have a partner help you.

    • 3

Bend the finger as much as you are able, and position the end of the tape along the tip of your finger, extending it down past the knuckle of the injured finger.

    • 4

Press the tape gently into the skin to ensure proper sticking. Once the tape is secure, it will gently stretch the finger, keeping it in proper form to ensure timely healing.
