1
Remove the wheel trucks from the underside of the longboard. Simply loosen and unscrew the mounting bolts that secure the trucks to the longboard deck using an adjustable wrench. Set the wheel trucks aside.
-
2
Place the longboard on a work table. Situate the board so the top side is facing upwards. Apply heat to the grip tape using a hairdryer for several minutes or until you notice the tape start to curl or bubble.
-
3
Cut a slit in the grip tape from the left side of the board to the right side. Grab one of the flaps created from cutting the grip tape.
-
4
Continue to apply heat to the grip tape while you peel the grip tape from the deck. Move slowly and keep applying heat, which should break the adhesive glue used to seal the tape to the board.
Grip Tape Application
-
5
Place the longboard on a work table. Situate the board so the top side is facing upwards. Unpeel the grip tape from the adhesive protection seal. Apply the grip tape to the longboard so about 1/2 inch of tape hangs over the entire circumference of the board. Do not apply pressure to the tape; just allow it to sit on top of the board. Adjust the tape if necessary to center it on the board.
-
6
Rub your hands along the grip tape, applying firm pressure. Start at the center of the board and work outward towards the tips. Move slowly to prevent air bubbles from forming underneath the tape. Pay close attention to the edges. Apply a lot of pressure to the edges to ensure a good grip. Use a screwdriver if you want to apply additional pressure.
-
7
Cut the grip tape that hangs over the circumference of the board. Start at the nose of the board and cut all around the board. Inspect the board. The grip tape should be fastened securely to the board. Apply pressure around the edge of the board using the tip of a screwdriver.
-
8
Flip the board over so the bottom is facing upwards. Locate the mounting holes for the trucks. There should be four mounting holes at the nose of the board and four at the tip. Poke the tip of a screwdriver through the mounting holes until you pierce the grip tape. Replace the wheel trucks to the underside of the board.
