How to Clean Heely's Wheels

Heely's skate shoes are immensely popular with young children. The smooth glide of the wheel runs on almost all surfaces and stays clean for weeks at a time. When the wheels get dirty however, they must be cleaned to ensure the best quality ride. A common mistake made by many is cleaning the wheel with water only. Instructions

    • 1

Remove the wheels, of your Heely's and lay the shoe aside. The manufacturers instructions to do so accompany your skates at the time of purchase. The chemicals you will use to clean your Heely's will not be suitable for the body of the skate. WD-40 can deteriorate the shoe fabric or stain it.

    • 2

Douse a washcloth in warm water and wring it out. You use gently strokes to wipe down the wheel. This will remove any loose debris, or minor dirt particles from the wheel. Take care to rub gently in the crevices of the wheel, and all sides of the wheel.

    • 3

Rub a towel across the wet wheels to dry them. This is an important step, applying WD-40 to a moistened wheel will cause the chemical to bead. Beading means it will not rub into and dissolve on the wheel, which could make the wheel too slippery. Lack of care in this step could lead to potential injury.

    • 4

Pour a 1/4 cupful of WD-40 onto the towel and rub the wheels gently, coating the surface on all sides. There is no need to get WD-40 into the crevices. It will only make it easier for the crevice to build up dirt and grime faster.

Allow 30 minutes drying and airing time before reassembly and handling. After reassembly, the Heely's will be clean and run smoothly.
