How to Attach a Visor on a Football Helmet

Wearing a visor attached to your football helmet will greatly help prevent eye injuries while keeping the sun out of your eyes. High school rules in many states, however, prohibit the use of any shade of visor other than clear. Double-check to make sure your visor is legal before attaching it to your helmet, which can be done by following a few easy steps.

  • Football helmet with face mask
  • Screwdriver
  • Visor with screws/clips

      Remove the face mask from the football helmet. Twist a screwdriver in a counterclockwise motion to loosen and remove every screw that holds the face mask in place.

      Slide the visor into the main vision area of your football helmet. The tabs on the top right and left front of the visor need to be on the inside of the face mask.

      Fasten the visor's two screw clips onto the lateral bars of the face mask. The clips need to be aligned with the corresponding marks on each side of the bottom of the visor.

      Screw both screws into the clips to attach the visor to the face mask, turning them in a clockwise motion with your screwdriver.

      Attach the face mask, with visor in place, back onto the helmet by fastening each screw back into place by turning them in a clockwise motion.
