Tennis Equipment for Kids
-
Racket
-
Rackets for kids are less expensive, smaller, shorter and lighter, making them easier to handle.
Balls
-
For beginners, try using soft-foam balls, which bounce and travel slower, and are easier to hit. As kids improve their tennis skills, advance to standard tennis balls.
Tennis Court
-
Ideally, find an unoccupied tennis court, fully enclosed with tall fencing. But any hard-level surface will suffice for starting such as a driveway or basketball court.
Shoes
-
Actual tennis shoes are designed for the side-to-side movement inherent to tennis and will work better than running shoes intended for forward running motion.
Clothing
-
It is not necessary to wear true tennis attire such as tennis skirts and shorts, but nonrestrictive clothing will be better for the movement needed to play tennis.
Rule Book
-
As children progress in the sport, a book of rules and regulations should be added to the equipment.
