How to Aim a Javelin
Things You'll Need
- Practice field (with throwing arc)
Instructions

-
1
Advance to the delivery point, where the javelin must be launched from in order to remain behind the scratch line.
-
2
Visually locate the center of the throwing arc on the field. Pick a point on the field that lies directly beyond this center, is easily seen and can be remembered. Select a memorable point on the horizon if no object is present.
-
3
Stand with one arm raised up and pointing straight out toward the center of throwing arc. Make sure to hold the arm parallel to the ground and lined up with the point selected earlier.
-
4
Raise your arm up 33 degrees. Find the position of 33 degrees by imaging your parallel arm as being at 9 o'clock, raising it to the 10 o'clock position is a close approximation. Make sure that your arm remains straight. Memorize the new point on the object or horizon, this is where the javelin will be aimed.
-
5
Return to the start point for the throw. Take up the javelin and when running and preparing for the transfer to launch, hold your eyes steady on the point picked out on the field or above the horizon.
-
6
Launch the javelin, making sure that it follows the motion of the throwing shoulder and the target point remains the main focus. Practice until the javelin will go where the sight is held.
