1
Compare sprinting spike sizes and styles to find the best fit for you. Visit a running shoe speciality store for a wide selection of sprinting spikes. Most shoes come with metal spikes disassembled from the shoe so they are easily interchangeable. You can try them on in the store and change out the spikes if needed.

2
Check the length of your sprinting spikes. Sprinting spikes should not cramp your toes or create excess room between the ground and the sole of your shoes. The metal or plastic spikes should dig into the ground to create more traction, power and speed while you race. Most speciality stores will have a rubber running surface for you to take your shoes for a test run.

3
Run in your spikes. Just like an ordinary pair of running shoes, having spikes may feel different from a standing position to a running position. Since running magnifies the pressure points on different parts of the toes and heel, take a few strikes in the metal spikes to find the right width and length of spikes for you.
-
4
Repeat the process until you find a comfortable pair of sprinting spike shoes.
