How to Jump Higher Off One Foot

Jumping, whether for basketball, for high jump or for any other sport that requires it, can be an important part to success in the sport. Sports that require jumping off one foot, such as the high jump, often require improving the height and jumping power. Strengthening the legs and improving the potential power within the legs improves the height of a jump from one leg. Whether improving vertical height of a one-foot jump for personal satisfaction or for improved performance in sports, making the legs stronger can result in jumping higher.

Instructions

    • 1

Practice skipping. Skip as fast as possible. Push off with one leg as powerfully as possible. Practice skipping like this for about half an hour a day to increase the power of both legs gradually.

    • 2

Work on squats. Squats build up the muscles in the legs, which are important to jumping power and ability. Squat 100 times a day to build up leg strength.

    • 3

Practice jumping. Use both legs one at a time. Gradually work on increasing the height. Add mobility such as jumping to the side or backwards for any sport that requires ease of movement like basketball.

    • 4

Run daily. Running, like squats, can improve leg muscles and build up the muscle gradually. Muscles that are more powerful can jump higher.
