How to Build a Temporary Discus Ring

      Attach the rope. Attach the rope to the spike. You will be using the spike as the center of the ring.

      Measure the rope. The diameter of a discus ring is 96.5 inches, the rope till need to measure 48.25 inches in order to create the perfect discus-ring diameter. To ensure proper measuring, measure from the spike to the tip of the rope.

      Drive the spike. If the temporary discus ring is being placed on a soft surface, drive the spike into the ground to hold. If the surface is hard, have someone hold the spike in the center of the proposed ring.

      Take a walk. Pull the rope tight and being to walk in a circle. Using the can of spray paint, paint the ground at the tip of the rope.

      Erect the cage. By track and field regulations, throwing competitions must have a cage with a net surrounding the ring. This cage, while increasing safety, is an optional precaution for practice rings.
