How to Impress a College Volleyball Coach at Tryouts

If you want to be on your college's volleyball team, it is important to know what impresses volleyball coaches as well as college coaches in general. The tryouts are likely to last three to four days and take place from morning to afternoon. In addition to volleyball-specific activities, coaches will be testing your athletic ability, such as endurance. Impressing your coach involves preparing thoroughly for the tryouts along with what you do on the court.

Instructions

    • 1

Practice bumping a hard spike serve. Find a person who is good at spiking, and practice bumping the ball back when she spikes you. At tryouts, when the coach spikes you, you will be able to bump it back without any problem.

    • 2

Work on your passing skills and deep hitting across the court. Because you will be playing volleyball games at the tryouts, you need to make sure you are on your best game.

    • 3

Develop more than one type of serve. This will show the coach that you have experience.

    • 4

Show up on time and volunteer to help the coach. Do not be the first to leave.

    • 5

Introduce yourself to the coach to get on the coach's radar. Thank the coach when the tryouts are done.

    • 6

Listen to the coach's instructions even if you disagree. This shows the coach that you are not stubborn and will be coachable.
