You can also look for a volleyball court in your area which already has posts installed. Simply tie your net to existing posts.

    Court

    • Define the in-bounds areas of your court with lines. You can purchase lines in various forms. If you play beach volleyball, you should purchase lines of rope. You will be able to extend this rope out to form the proper dimensions. You will also be able to stake these ropes into the ground if you choose. For indoor matches, you can purchase tape and lay that onto the court. Alternatively, you may be able to paint lines if you have permission to do so at your facility. According to the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), a volleyball court should be 59 feet by 29 and a half feet.

    Gear

    • You will need a volleyball in order to play. Many different companies produce volleyballs, including Spalding, Wilson, Baden and Tachikara. Generally, the more expensive volleyballs tend to be of a higher quality. Depending on the playing surface, you may wish to purchase some protective gear. If you play indoor volleyball, you should purchase knee and elbow pads. Elbow pads can either offer support or cover the entirety of your elbow to provide padding. Knee pads come in various densities. You should consult your athletic trainer if you want to optimize your protection. Alternatively, if you play outdoor volleyball, you should consider buying some sunglasses to protect yourself from sand. Asics and Mizuno both produce volleyball specific shoes. Volleyball shoes help increase traction on indoor volleyball courts. If you play volleyball on the beach, you can either play barefoot, in sandals or in sand socks. If you wish to keep score in an official looking manner, you may also wish to obtain a scoreboard.
