Simple Volleyball Drills
-
Passing
-
Passing the ball can be practiced alone by passing a ball against a wall. Count how many times you can pass the ball against the wall in a row. Try for a higher number each time until you can pass the ball 100 times without dropping it. Another drill is performed on a court with a target in the setter position near the net. Place the passer in the middle back position. Toss the ball at the passer from the other side of the net. The passer's goal is to hit the setter target each time.
Setting
-
Setting, or an overhead pass, is an important part of volleyball. The setter is the quarterback of your team setting up each play. Place your setter in the setter position near the net. Have them set whatever hit you call out. If you call "outside" then they set there. If "middle" is called that is the set they perform. Call the set after the ball has been tossed or passed. This forces the setter make quick decisions and to work on setting each position.
Hitting and Blocking
-
Have players face each other on each side of the net in the outside position. One player remains to block while the other player moves back to hit the ball. The player attacks the ball while the blocker tries to block the hit. Move down the net, starting outside, moving to middle and then weak or right side of the court. The blocker moves with the hitter trying to block each attempt.
