Kids' Volleyball Drills
-
Wall Hitting
-
This is one of the most basic volleyball drills. Simply give the child a volleyball and let him hit it against the wall of your home, a gym or anywhere else the ball won't damage. Choose a spot on the wall and let the child practice hitting the spot. This will help him work on proper swing technique and arm motion.
Wall Blocks
-
When you block a ball in volleyball, you can't touch the net. Let the child practice staying clear of the net on a wall. Have her stand close to the wall with her arms straight up in the air. Then, she can jump straight up and hit her palms against the wall and practice coming back down without scraping her arms on the wall.
One on One Setting
-
Practice setting with the child. In volleyball, setting is when you push the ball straight up with your fingertips so that someone else can hit it over the net. Set back and forth over the net with the child until he gets the hang of it.
Bump in Place
-
This drill teaches a child how to control the ball. Volleyball players hold their hands together and bump the ball with the insides of their forearms rather than their hands. Have the child practice bumping the ball straight up repeatedly.
