How to Create Volleyball Uniforms

Having matching uniforms is a good way to exhibit team pride and spirit. This shows that you are serious as well as professional. Your team will be recognized and unified by its colors. You can make uniforms for a volleyball team with a simple pair of shorts and a sleeveless top.

Instructions

    • 1

Get the measurements of the players on the team. Design the uniforms keeping the colors in mind. Choose a few colors that can work with either black or white letters and numbers. Order the vinyl letters and numbers.

    • 2

Shop for fabrics for the tops that dry quickly when you sweat. Get an accent fabric for the trim and purchase a stretchy cotton/spandex blend for the shorts. Use a couple patterns for tops and shorts. Have more than one person at a time working with the pattern. Do the same for the shorts. Grab a friend (or friends) who will help you sew.

    • 3

Borrow a large room for the weekend, such as a church fellowship hall. Choose a room with large tables and electrical outlets so that you can plug in a couple of sewing machines and a heat press. Lay out your fabrics and patterns. Cut and pin the fabrics together. Sew all of the tops and add the trim to the sleeves. Sew all of the shorts. Get the team members to come in and try everything on so you can make adjustments.

    • 4

Finish sewing the shorts and tops. Set up your heat press machine and give it time to warm up. Lay out the letters and numbers. Double check to be sure the correct names are on the correct jersey.

    • 5

Place the letters and numbers on the back of the shirt. Use the press carefully. Follow the directions and recommendations for the heat setting needed for the letters and numbers you have chosen. Allow the uniforms to cool. Pull the adhesive backing off of the letters and you are done.
