Setting Up a Volleyball Net

Set Up the Volleyball Net
-
Before you set up the volleyball net, make sure you have a large enough playing area that is free from debris and other obstacles or players could harm themselves. The volleyball court should be 52 feet long by 26 feet wide with at least 6 feet of clearance around the court. Start with one side of the net. Make sure the net is attached to the inside of the pole, not the outside. Put the pole in the ground so it is upright. Use a mallet to pound the net securely into the ground. Unroll the net and pull it tight, but not so tight that you're causing the other pole to lean. Pound the second pole into the ground so it is secure. If your net height is adjustable, move the net up or down according to the players. The height of the net for coed and men's games is 7 feet, 11 5/8 inches. For reverse coed and women's games, the net should be 7 feet, 4 1/8 inches high. Be sure to measure both sides of the net to make sure it's even. Measure the net from the top to the ground.
Mark the Court
-
Make sure the same amount of net is hanging over the sides of the court and the net is in the middle. Make sure any stakes pounded into the ground are all the way in so they won't injure or trip any players.
