How to Do a Volleyball Roster

A volleyball roster serves two purposes. First, it lists the players' names and certain statistics for people in attendance. Second, it acts as the official roster for the announcer, coaches, statisticians and referees. Regardless of your purpose, the roster contains elements that you should include. You can choose to add any other elements you feel are necessary.

      Write the name of the school at the top of the page or on a spreadsheet. If the roster is for game day, mark whether the team is “Home” or “Visitor.”

      List the number of the first player, alphabetically by last name, on the left side of the page. Write the player's name next to the number. You choose whether to write the player's name first/last or last/first.

      Write the position or positions of the player in abbreviated format. For example, “MB” stands for “middle blocker” and “OH” stands for “opposite hitter.”

      List each player's height, class – freshman, sophomore, junior, senior – and hometown and state. Include the class only for high school and college players. Include the hometown and state only for college players. Write each player's graduating high school in parentheses next to the hometown and state.
