How to Sanitize Materials for Goggles

A pair of goggles, whether for swimming or safety, is a simple but important tool for eye protection. It's essential, therefore, that goggles be properly sanitized, especially if they've been worn by someone else. The proximity of goggles to the major openings of the face, including eye, ears and nose, means that germs and bacteria found on the goggles can make their way into the body. As eye wear, it's important that goggles always be cleaned with nonabrasive materials, as scratching makes them less effective.

Instructions

    • 1

Wash your hands with soap and water. Focus on the fingertips. Goggles can't be effectively sanitized with dirty hands.

    • 2

Rinse the goggles under running water to remove any dirt, dust or other grime that's gotten on them.

    • 3

Pour some soapy water onto the goggle lenses. Mix distilled water with either mild dish soap or Alconox (a cleaner used for mirrors) and rub the soapy water over both sides of the lenses with your fingertips.

    • 4

Rinse the goggles off with regular tap water, and then rinse once again with distilled water to clear off any residue. Leave the goggles to dry on their own.
