How to a Double Leg Takedown in Wrestling
Instructions
-
-
1
Drop your level so that your center of gravity is below your partner, putting you in a position to attack his legs.
-
2
Burst forward from your crouched position, staying low to the ground. As you approach your partner's legs, snake each of your arms around the outside of both of his legs, ideally grabbing just above the knees.
-
3
Sink your arms as deep behind his legs as possible, while keeping your head off to one side of his body. Do not keep your head in front of his chest, as it will make it easier for him to defend the take down, and harder for you to finish the move.
-
4
Drive your head into his side, while pulling his legs in toward you, turning him like the wheel of a bus. This eliminates the support under his center of mass, forcing him to fall over.
-
5
Keep in contact with him as he falls to his stomach, while staying behind him to ensure that he doesn't quickly stand up or roll away.
-
6
Consider the alternative. An explosive wrestler may find that quickly driving forward and upward as he grabs his opponent's legs enables him to lift his opponent off his feet. While in the air your opponent will be essentially helpless, so take your time and dump him to the side, while staying tight to his body, so he doesn't escape. When you have your opponent completely off the ground, do not slam down with more force than gravity would exert on him, as it can cause injury, and may merit a warning or penalty points.
