How to Do a Crossbow in Wrestling

The crossbow is a wrestling move executed from the top or front headlock position. The move is also known as a near-side cradle and a bow and arrow. The move is used to turn the opponent on his back for nearfall or for a pin to end the match. The crossbow is a simple move but it requires arm strength, timing and a strong neck to bend the opponent's torso. The crossbow is a common move that is effective at beginning and advanced levels.

Instructions

    • 1

Start in a front headlock position with the opponent's head under your chest. Control his chin with one hand and his arm with the opposite hand.

    • 2

Pull on his chin to pull the back of his head into your armpit. Slide your head over the top of the arm you are controlling and release the arm with your hand. Reach that same hand to his knee and circle towards his knee. This forces your head into his rib cage and bends his torso in the shape of a crossbow.

    • 3

Pull his head and knee together while applying pressure to the rib cage with your head. Continue adding pressure until you can lock your hands. Locking your hands places you in a control position with his knee and head pinched together.

    • 4

Sit to your hip located on the same side as his head. Roll the opponent on his back as you sit to the hip.

    • 5

Hold the position until you pin both shoulder blades or score three nearfall points with a five-second count from the official.
