How to Start Your Own Wrestling Federation
Instructions

1
Begin by purchasing a ring. Wrestling rings are portable and can be brought from town to town. Buying your own ring is a solid investment for anybody hoping to start a wrestling federation. In the end, you'll actually save money since you won't have to rent a wrestling ring every weekend (see Resources below).
-
2
Obtain a promoter's license. Many people are unaware that you can actually be fined for not having the proper license to promote a wrestling event. As with driving or other things of this nature, there are different ways to obtain such a license in each state. Investigate how the process is done in your state before continuing.
-
3
Create a name for your wrestling federation. Most wrestling federations are made up of three words (WWE, ECW, WCW, TNA, etc.). Many smaller wrestling federations have the town, city or state in the name (NJPW is "New Jersey Pro Wrestling"). Make sure that there is no wrestling federation which already has your selected name before you go on.
-
4
Decide what type of wrestling federation you wish to have. You could, for example, attempt to have the same type of wresting found in WWE. Perhaps you'd like your federation to have more of an ROH or old ECW feel to it. This will be determined by your likes and dislikes as well as the wrestlers you wish to have in your promotion.
-
5
Contact other local independent wrestling promotions and inform them about your intentions. You don't, after all, want to be stepping on the toes of local promoters who have been around longer than you. If you get on their good side, they may be able to help you with talent exchanges and promotion of your wrestling federation. They'll also be able to help you with acquiring talent for your new wrestling federation.
-
6
Start off with a roster of local, independent wrestlers who are allowed to wrestle in other wrestling federations. Every successful wrestling federation starts off as a local sensation. For this to work, you'll need wrestlers who are popular in your area. Contact these wrestlers about performing for your wrestling federation. You should start off with a relatively small roster. Anymore than 20 wrestlers to start is probably too much for an upstart wrestling federation.
-
7
Call different places about holding wrestling events. Most small wrestling federations have shows in school gyms and other such places. Call these places both in your town and city as well as surrounding areas and make sure that they're open to you renting out the area for a wrestling event. You should have anywhere between 5 to 7 places that you can house a wrestling event.
-
8
Create a website for your wrestling federation. Wrestling fans love to use the Internet to find the latest story lines, spoilers and updates. Use the Internet as a way to promote your new wrestling federation and inform potential fans about upcoming shows. Go into local wrestling forums and inform users about your new wrestling promotion.
-
9
Don't worry about titles or story lines at first. Instead, simply have your wrestlers compete against one another so that the fans can get used to seeing them. Making somebody a champ the first time out won't mean much, especially to a fan who's never seen that wrestler before. Letting your wrestlers perform in the ring can also make the story writing much easier for you. Many times, wrestlers can create a feud or rivalry themselves with their work in the ring.
