Videos That Can Train Me to Cheer

The origins of cheerleading can be traced back to an 1898 football game between the University of Minnesota and Northwestern University. According to the International Cheer Union, the University of Minnesota pep club nominated a handful of young men to lead the crowd in the popular university cheer: "Rah, Rah, Rah! Ski-U-Mah! Hoo-Rah! Varsity! Varsity! Minn-e-so-tah!" For the first 25 years, cheerleading was a male activity but by 1940 women had become the majority of cheerleaders. Today, cheerleading is practiced on campuses across the country and a wide variety of instructional videos offer to teach young boys and girls how to cheer.
  1. Cheers and Chants

    • Cheer and chant videos teach cheerleaders techniques for developing unique cheers and chants perfect for getting their school's supporters revved-up. Quality videos will demonstrate the cheers and chants from front and back angles so teams can learn quickly and effectively. "West Coast Cool: Game Action Chants and Performance Cheers," "Coaches Choice: Cheerleading Chants" and "Cheers and Chants, Vol 10," with Mark Bagon are just some of the many videos prospective cheerleaders can use to learn how to properly cheer.

    Jumps and Pyramids

    • Cheerleading can be a physically demanding and dangerous sport that requires participants to learn proper technique to avoid injury. Jumping and pyramid videos teach cheerleaders how to safely perform basic cheerleading acrobatics."West Coast Cool: Basic Co-ed Partner Stunts," "West Coast Cool: Basic Group Stunts," "Advanced Stunts, Vol 10" and the "American Cheerleading Federation: Advanced Jumps and Tumbling Combinations" are just some of the videos that will teach cheerleaders how to safely execute acrobatic moves to entertain crowds.

    Strength Training

    • Executing the moves required in advanced cheerleading requires participants to be in good shape. Strength training videos teach cheerleaders the principles and techniques involved in conditioning a fit cheerleader. "Jumps and Jump Conditioning Foundation Series," "Physical Conditioning for Cheerleaders" and "Cheer Fit: Strength and Conditioning for Cheerleading" all promise to give athletes the proper conditioning needed to excel at cheering.

    Box Sets

    • Box sets offer cheerleaders the opportunity to learn the basics of cheerleading from the same source. Instead of buying DVDs from competing companies that may overlap or omit necessary training, box sets could be viewed as a more complete tutorial. The American Cheerleading Federation's "Foundations for Cheerleading, Vol 2" is a 3-DVD collection that includes: "Foundations for Successful Cheerleading," "Dances and Quick Dances" and "Foundations for Successful Cheerleading Cheers and Chants" is one such box set that covers the fundamental basics.
