Cheerleading Dress Up Ideas for Pep Rallies

Make pep rallies more fun by having themes with corresponding dress for the cheerleaders and attendees. Dressing up for a pep rally should include clothing that still allows for cheerleading moves done during the pep rally. The clothes should also keep with the theme. Use several dress-up ideas over the course of a cheer season for variety to the pep rally themes.
  1. Nerd Pep Rally

    • Break out the suspenders, taped glasses and pigtails. At a nerd pep rally, wearing a "kick me" sign on your back becomes cool. Have everyone on the squad wear suspenders and knee socks with shorts or their cheerleading skirt. Look for heavy, black-rimmed costume glasses from party stores and put white medical tape across the bridge of the nose. Wear a button-down shirt with a front pocket and collar, and keep a pocket protector and pens in the front pocket to complete the look.

    1950s Pep Rally

    • Go to a craft store an purchase fabric poodle appliques in the sewing section. Pin one of these to a long, wide skirt for each of the female cheerleaders in the squad. Girls should wear their hair in a pony tail tied with a bright ribbon and a short sleeve shirt with a collar. The male cheerleaders should sport a plain white shirt under a black leather jacket with blue jeans and slicked-back hair.

    Hawaii Pep Rally

    • Get fake flower leis from a party store to wear to a Hawaii pep rally.

Everyone wears Hawaiian shirts and flower leis. Girls should place a fake hibiscus flower behind one of their ears. Look at party supply stores or thrift shops for fake grass skirts to wear over cheerleading skirts and Hawaiian shirts.

    Disco Pep Rally

    • Create a disco atomsphere at the pep rally starting with 1970s attire.

Visit a vintage clothing store or second-hand shop to look for bell bottom jeans and afro wigs for a disco pep rally. Grab a rock from the front yard to carry around in a box labeled: "Caution: Pet Rock Inside" and wear several strands of long beads around your neck. During the day, wear platform shoes but change into tennis shoes for the pep rally to prevent injuries.

    Twin Pep Rally

    • Pair off members of the cheer squad to dress alike as twins for the pep rally.

Have everyone in the squad pair off and dress like their "twin" for the pep rally. The clothes chosen should match as closely as possible. For instance, two girls could wear the same color and style skirt and shirt while two guys could sport matching pants and tops. Encourage others at the school to pair off with another to dress alike and help create the twins pep rally theme.
