Cheerleading Pep Assembly Ideas

Although cheerleaders typically lead a pep rally for an upcoming activity or game, they often plan activities that involve players or other students. The most important part of a pep assembly is to keep the energy level high, so try to involve everyone.
  1. Class Contest

    • Get the entire student body involved in the pep rally by planning a contest that involves all classes. For example, ask each homeroom to decorate its door or the wall outside the classroom with a school spirit theme. The cheerleaders judge the decorations before the pep assembly and award the winners. Another idea is to call on each class to cheer individually. The loudest class wins a prize, such as a pizza party or candy.

    Teacher Dance Off

    • Most students enjoy seeing their teachers let loose and have fun. Plan a teacher dance off for the pep assembly to ensure everyone is laughing and having fun. Enlist some teachers who are willing to get in front of the students and dance. Teach the students a short dance routine before the pep rally. Then have them do the routine during the pep rally. The cheerleaders can choose the winner, or the teacher who gets the most student cheers can be the winner.

    Contests

    • Involve regular students and sports team players in games during the pep rally. Keep the games short and easy so that spectators don't lose interest. For example, make a poster that says "Cream the Tigers" or whomever your opponent will be. Then have the players participate in a pie eating contest. Another idea is to plan a school trivia contest and have a few contestants see who knows the most about the school and its history.

    Speeches

    • Games and funny moments help keep energy up in the pep rally, it's a good idea to have a couple of short speeches about school spirit and the game. Ask the team captain or coach to speak to the students during the pep assembly.
