1
Request catalogs from several different school spirit suppliers. Many companies will automatically send catalogs each year to various schools that are on their mailing list. You can also find suppliers on the Internet who will mail you a print catalog and color swatches upon request. Some of the websites specializing in cheerleading gear also offer advice on how to choose the right uniform and help with sizing issues.

2
Browse online catalogs when print catalogs aren't available or while you're waiting for requested catalogs to arrive. Campus Team Wear and the Cheerleading Company both have good information to look through online while you're waiting.
-
3
Discuss with the squad what style of cheerleading uniform they want. For the girls, you can choose a one piece or two-piece ensemble. On two-piece outfits, the tops can be crop, midriff or full length, and the skirt can be a classic A-Line, 8- or 12-pleat, box- or knife-pleat, low-rise or skort. For the guys, you can choose long shorts or pants. You will want the style of both sexes to coordinate.

4
Determine what colors to use. Typically uniform colors are based on the school's colors, but some squads will choose a contrasting color or really bright colors so they will stand out more. If you do want to match the school's colors exactly, however, you should ask potential uniform companies to send you sample swatches. When choosing colors, keep in mind that any pom-poms you choose will either have to match the uniforms or be a contrasting color so they stand out. (See the eHow article "How to Buy Cheerleading Pom-Poms.")

5
Compare the different types of materials available. You want something that's comfortable yet flattering. Breathable materials that stretch with the wearer but are durable enough to withstand all the extra wear and tear are things to keep in mind. The kind of material you ultimately choose should also fit the average temperatures the squad will be exposed to. For example, cheerleaders for a football team in a state where it's cool in the fall when they normally play would not want a lightweight material in a cropped, short-sleeved design.
-
6
Set a budget for the total amount you want to spend on each individual member's uniform. This will help you limit overeager cheerleaders who want the top of the line when that may not be necessary or even the best choice. This budget may be based on funds already available or funds you expect to become available after fund-raising events planned for the specific purpose of purchasing uniforms.
-
7
Compare prices between the companies you are considering for your cheerleading uniforms once the budget has been set. While comparing, don't forget to include shipping charges, which will vary depending on where the uniforms are being shipped. This is also a good time to find out what kind of guarantee each company has in regard to quality and overall satisfaction and their return policy if you aren't satisfied with your purchase.
-
8
Make a list of each cheerleader's sizes or get their measurements so you can compare them to a sizing chart. Uniform companies usually have charts to determine which size will fit best, but if they don't, request more information on how to choose the correct sizes. Be precise when taking measurements to ensure uniforms will fit properly. When the uniforms arrive, have everyone try their uniforms on immediately to determine if there are any problems with sizes or defects in the garments.
-
9
Make an educated decision based on these factors and the information you have received from a variety of spirit uniform providers. By weighing the pros and cons of each manufacturer based on your individual needs, you will be able to find the cheerleading uniforms you need.
