Ideas for Teambuilding for Cheerleaders

Cheerleaders help to fuel their school's team spirit by working together to share and build excitement for their school's sports and activities. The members of the cheerleading squad need to build trust and bond with one another so they can exude unity and ignite school pride and excitement.
  1. Fundraising

    • Fundraising will be a a fundamental practice for your cheerleading squad. Engage your squad in the process and ask each cheerleader to recommend new fundraising ideas or suggest how to improve tried and true fundraising efforts. Ask everyone to share her ideas to help everyone feel included, and encourage everyone to think out of the box. Let them know that all ideas will be welcome and considered. Encourage the squad to help support and build on each other's ideas.

    Serving the Community

    • By asking your cheerleading squad to serve their community, you offer them the chance to work together to be a positive force for themselves, each other, their school and those whom they serve. Whether you ask your squad to work with a local food bank or animal shelter, or to organize a neighborhood or park cleaning day, you will instill in them a sense of bonding, responsibility and commitment. Remind your squad that they should work together to make the event as successful as possible to benefit the community.

    Mini-Biography Quiz

    • You can promote your cheerleading squad's bonding and team building by asking them to participate in a mini-biography quiz about their fellow squad members. Ask each squad member questions such as "Who is your role model?" and "Where would like like to go to college?" Record their answers, then gather your squad members together in a fun-filled atmosphere. For the quiz, read the answers to each question and ask the squad members to guess who gave them.

    Team Meetings

    • The ability to clearly, honestly and effectively communicate with each other is fundamental to your cheerleading squad's success. Each week, ask a different member to create a theme for a weekly cheerleading squad meeting, which may include things such as focusing on mind, body and spirit. Your goal is to understand what each team member hopes to gain from cheerleading and to offer the school. A member may choose a theme such as how eating a good, balanced diet affects her ability to be a good athlete and fellow team member. Ask members to participate and openly share their views on the meeting's theme.
