Tips on Showing Spirit at Cheerleader Tryouts
-
Preparation
-
Showing spirit isn't just about attitude. It's also about showing how important cheerleading is to you. Find out what is expected of cheerleaders on the team and work on it before tryouts. The more work you put in and the better shape you show up in for tryouts, the more it shows your dedication to cheerleading. Showing spirit will put you in a better frame of mind for the physical components of the tryout.
Get Along With the Group
-
It's important for you to interact with other members of the cheerleading squad. Even when you're not performing in front of them, people will be watching how you interact with other members of the team. Be friendly, positive and try to get to know other cheerleading prospects during down time at the tryouts. This demonstrates your willingness to fit in and work as part of a team.
Willing to Learn
-
A willingness to learn shows team spirit that your coaches will notice. Be positive and look at every minute of the tryout as a chance to learn about the team, the coaches and the routines. Keep your eyes and ears open and take to heart any feedback you are given during the tryouts.
Demonstrated Spirit
-
Everything you do at a tryout demonstrates your spirit. Stay confident, smile and remember not to be fake. When you perform, treat the judges as a crowd that you're trying to pump up with your cheers. Concentrate on the mechanical movements of the routine, let your excitement and humor show and perform as if you've already made the squad.
