Cheerleading Spirit Projects

Cheerleading spirit projects are an integral part of a school's spirit and pride. From fundraising to game day events, cheerleaders lead fellow students and set examples through both fun and educational activities that break up the monotony of the school day and get kids involved who aren't on the cheer squad or sports teams.
  1. School Color Days

    • Costumes at school are always a big hit and cheerleaders can organize a week where students, faculty and staff come dressed in team colors. The colors are not just limited to clothing and the week can feature a crazy hair day, with students spray painting their hair or wearing fun accessories in these shades. Deck the halls with streamers and balloons all week long, topping off the week with a coach's lunch where the band can play the school song and cheerleaders and students can contribute their favorite dish.

    Fun Fundraisers

    • Cheerleading spirit projects can also help to raise funds for various causes at the school. A car wash can be held outside the school or in a local parking lot. Cheerleaders and sports team members can charge a nominal amount to clean a car's exterior while wearing either their uniforms or school colors, which helps to advertise who the car wash is organized by. The cheer squad can also organize a party at a local bowling alley. Tickets can be sold in advance and the entire school can get involved with some competitive fun on the weekend. Proceeds from both of these events could go to the athletic department.

    Honor the Team

    • A spirit showcase is a great way to show pride in the home teams. The cheer squad can design a display featuring coaches and students from both past and present with photos, stories and trophies so students can learn about the history of sports at their school. The showcase can be displayed throughout the school year and each week can be topped off by naming both a male and female athlete of the week.

    Game Day Ideas

    • When game day comes, cheerleaders can get themselves and the crowd involved in a variety of ways. They can encourage a new twist on the traditional "wave" by having team fans stand up all the way and do a 360 degree turn before sitting back down. They can also hang balloons and banners all the way from the street, through the parking lot and into the stadium, and to truly show their cheering agility, the cheer squad can dance inside large stretchable pillow cases that each have a letter spelling out the team name.
