Self-Care Tips: Part One
Cheerleading is an intense sport that requires hours of training and even more dedication. During the cheer season, the world can feel overwhelming at times, especially if you spend all week training and then have a competition over the weekend. While it’s important to ensure that your stunts are perfect and your smile is on point, it’s just as important to ensure that you’re taking care of yourself so you can be at your best during competition. That’s why, in this two-part series, we will provide you with a few self-care tips to keep in mind during the season.
At Worldwide Spirit Association, we want to provide a place where cheerleaders of all ages can show off their skills with pride. We share a passion for all star cheerleading, and we want to help coaches, teams, and individuals reach their full potential. Explore our website to learn more about our organization, and if you’re ready to show us what you’ve got, sign up your all star cheerleading team for one of our upcoming competitions today!
Find a Balance Between School, Cheer, and Home
The best thing you can do for yourself, especially during the busiest part of the season, is try to find a balance between school, cheer, and your home life. There are many days where you may find yourself going straight from school to cheer practice and then home to eat dinner and do homework. Because you’re going back and forth from one activity to another, it can be difficult to find time just for yourself. We recommend trying to organize your schedule in such a way that you have even a small block of time set aside for yourself so that you can relax and unwind after a busy day.
Reward Yourself
Whether you’re working out to stay in shape for the season or you’re at practice perfecting your routine, you put a lot of work into reaching your team’s goal of being the best you could possibly be. For this reason, it’s important to make sure you reward yourself for all your hard work. Perhaps you nailed a stunt you’ve been working on for the last couple weeks, or maybe you finally reached your goal of running a certain distance or lifting a certain amount of weight. Whatever the case may be, take the time to celebrate your achievements with a reward. The great thing about rewarding yourself is that it can be anything you want, and it doesn’t always have to be something big. For example, if you’ve been wanting to buy a new pair of leggings or you’ve been craving a smoothie, go ahead and treat yourself because you deserve it!
Don’t Be Afraid to Take Time Off
In order to reach your goals and be your best, it’s important to work hard. However, it’s just as important to listen to your body and take time off when you need it. If you completed a really difficult workout at practice and your body is sore the next day, don’t go out and work even harder to compensate. Try to remind yourself that it’s okay to take a day off to rest and recuperate so that you can be at your very best when it matters most.
