Baseball Cupcake Ideas

For a tasty treat that will satisfy your Little Leaguer's team, bake a batch of baseball-themed cupcakes. Your little sluggers are sure to gobble down the sugary baked goods after a hard-fought game on the diamond. Even if it's not a championship you are celebrating, why not create specially-decorated baseball cupcakes for everyone on the team. There is no reason you cannot make these on your own.
  1. Simple Baseballs

    • Cupcakes are as much an artistic creation as they are a culinary treat. After the cupcakes have cooled, spread white frosting over each of them, getting it as smooth as you can. Apply the delicate baseball stitching with either a small-tipped professional applicator or by a homemade applicator. (Cut a small hole in the corner of a plastic bag that filled with frosting.) As an alternative to red frosting, consider using tiny red hot candies to replicate the stitching. For more personalization, write each player's number in frosting in between the stitching, in team colors, of course. The children will like having their own unique cupcake. For additional flair, choose baseball-themed or team-colored cupcake liners.

    Team Helmets

    • Make a series of cupcakes, one that represents each team in the major or minor league, whichever you prefer. If that many cupcakes are not necessary, simply select a division or narrow it down to a few random teams. Cover each cupcake with frosting that is representative of the helmet color, spreading it as smoothly as possible. Use a frosting applicator to draw the team's logo on top of the base frosting. For example, if you were to create Chicago Cubs cupcakes, spread blue frosting as the base and use red frosting for the "C." If you are especially sure-handed with the frosting applicator, outline the "C" with white, just like the Cubs' helmets.

    Baseball Diamond

    • This idea works best for large batches of cupcakes (two dozen or more). The key to this idea is the arrangement of each individual cupcake, so it creates an overall image that will score a home run with the teammates, coaches and parents alike. Determine how many cupcakes you need to bake and draw rows of cupcakes (trace a small circular object) in a grid format, using pencil and paper. Then, using a colored pencil or marker, lay out a baseball diamond on top of the rows of circles, complete with four bases and the pitcher's mound in the center. This drawing will dictate what will be on each individual cupcake. You will need green, white and brown frosting to create the grass, diamond and bases. You can also purchase little plastic baseball players to stand on the bases, if you desire. Another finishing touch is to draw the team's logo on the field behind the pitcher's mound, for a customized look. Follow your grid closely to make sure your baseball diamond is laid out correctly on the tray or table.
