Instructions

  1. Prepare for Your Audition to Become a College Mascot

    • 1

Find out what steps are involved in the application for the position. The head of the athletic department can give you that information or refer you to the person in charge. Be sure to complete all necessary materials and turn them in on time.

    • 2

Prepare yourself physically. Being a college mascot takes a tremendous amount of energy and stamina, so be sure you are in top physical condition.

    • 3

Do some research. Talk to previous mascots, coaches and cheerleaders to find out what worked well for them, then come up with some variations on those routines to make them your own.

    • 4

Develop a few short skits and stunts to perform during your audition. Aim for the greatest variety of moods and expressions, but make sure a skit has a cohesive "through line" or rudimentary plot.

    • 5

Practice, practice, practice! Have someone record your stunts and routines on video so that you can critique yourself.

    • 6

Be able to think on your feet. You will probably be asked to do some improvisation to show the panel how you would deal with specific situations. Try to figure out in advance what those situations might be. Perhaps you have frightened a child, for example, or your team is hopelessly behind.

    • 7

Study the rules of the games. If you want to become a mascot, you need to be knowledgeable about what is going on at whatever game you might perform.
