Skit Ideas for Mascot Tryouts
-
Scene Re-enactments
-
Test the potential mascots' acting skills by making them re-enact a scene from a popular sitcom, talk show or movie as a skit. Hold the mascot tryouts in the school auditorium and construct three different sets on the stage, complete with backgrounds and props. Give each contestant a list of three re-enactments to perform in a skit for their routines. If your school mascot is a wolf, a possible movie to re-enact can be "Teen Wolf" or "Twilight." However, make it fun and creative by placing any mascot in different situations. A mascot who is a tiger can perform a skit that is inspired by the sitcom "Everyone Loves Raymond" called "Everyone Loves a Tiger."
Mascot Pageant
-
Turn mascot tryouts into a school event by organizing a mascot pageant as a full-length skit that lasts at least an hour. Everyone who signs up for tryouts will be contestants in the mascot pageant, going head-to-head in full costumes that they have created themselves. The costumes should be similar to the one that is worn by official school mascots. The beauty pageant can include talent, question-and-answer and dance competitions. The winner of the pageant is then named the new school mascot.
Presidential Debate
-
Those who are trying out for school mascot can showcase their abilities in a presidential-style debate. Since mascots don't talk, the debate will be a showdown of non-verbal, physical antics. Candidates will try out for mascot in sets of two in the debate-style competition. Those on the judge's panel will ask each pair of contestants questions pertaining to the job duties of a mascot, such as "How will you lead a high-energy pep rally, and demonstrate it for us?" Short answers can be given with a show of fingers, such as "How much experience do you have as a mascot?"
