Ideas for Mascots

The term "mascot" was coined in the late 1880s and describes a particular group's representative symbol, chosen to bring good luck. In the case of sports, mascots usually exist in the form of a person or an animal, long being recognized as the link between a team and its faithful fans. Whether they're representing high school football or a college hockey team, mascots must embody a strong sense of team spirit, humor and the ability to generate unparalleled amounts of enthusiasm from any crowd.
  1. Siamese Twin Chihuahuas

    • Based on the congenitally united twins, Chang and Eng Bunker, whose bodies were joined together at the chest, and on one of America's most loved pets--the chihuahua--this mascot is sure to get the attention of any crowd. Playing "Who Let The Dogs Out" upon their arrival to the field or court will ensure that the crowd goes wild. This mascot will require two students who are willing to share this title, as both will need to dress up in matching (and connected) costumes and work as a team. Remember: double the mascot equals double the team spirit.

    The Vampire

    • Vampires are all the rage right now. So why not employ one of these reanimated corpses as your school's mascot? While not a seemingly “traditional” idea for a mascot, it will be sure to extract each player's bloodthirsty desire for victory, while at the same time enchanting each and every "Twilight" fan in the stands. This attire for this mascot will be easy to ensemble; just visit the local costume shop.

    A Billy Goat

    • Just as the proud soldiers of the U.S. Navy have a goat as their mascot, so should your school. With an aggressive mascot like a billy goat, the players and fans of any team will be equipped and ready to combat their opposing teams with the same honor and integrity as does the Navy.

A mascot consisting of a male goat, or a billy goat, would also make the the perfect representation of any Midwestern school or university whose surrounding area relies heavily on the farming industry. Members of the farming community will be sure to pay a visit to the infamous dancing billy goat--possibly adding some loyal fans to the team as a result.
