Basketball Coach Training
-
Knowledge
-
Basketball coaches must have an outstanding knowledge of the game. If they do not, the team will not take them seriously. Coaches usually have played the game for many years and spent additional time researching and studying the strategies and techniques of the game.
Strategy
-
A coach's strategy is his or her's greatest weapon. The strategy is the style your team will play. Do you prefer an up-tempo offense or a grind it out defense? Many coaches adjust the strategy based on their team. Others always play with the same strategy and force their players to adjust.
Practice
-
Practice is the basketball coach's greatest resource. When a coach is training, he or she must understand this. What and how you use the time effectively in practice will directly relate to how good (or bad) your team will become. A team's discipline is really mastered in practice.
In-Game Strategy
-
In-game strategy is much different from general basketball strategy because it takes place during a game. Coaches who are great in games are quick learners and even quicker thinkers. They can adjust on the fly and relate to the team what they want in a matter of minutes. Often these adjustments are made during time-outs or at half-time.
Psychological
-
Understanding the game of basketball and strategy is simply not enough. The best coaches are also great at motivating, encouraging and discipline. They understand when to encourage and when to criticize a player's performance. Finding the ideal formula is only learned after several years of coaching.
