How to Play Basketball Tag

A player is a strong ball handler when the ball feels like it is an extension of his/her hand. To accomplish this, a player should handle the ball as much as possible. This article focuses on a game with a twist--the traditional game of "Tag" that incorporates dribbling. This can instill some additional fun into an otherwise grinding practice session.

Instructions

Define the boundaries for the game. The size of the playing surface should be in relation to the number of players. For example, half a court should be used for 8 to 10 players.

    • 2

Choose the first player to be "It." The other players will try to avoid this player while the "It" player attempts to tag them. The coach uses a stopwatch to measure the amount of time it takes the "It" player to tag the other players.

    • 3

Once a player is tagged by the "It" player, he/she stands outside the boundaries and watches the rest of that stage of the game.

    • 4

Each stage is completed when the "It" player has tagged all players in the game.

    • 5

After all players are tagged, a new "It" player is chosen and the coach measures his/her time to tag the other players.

    • 6

The player who has the lowest time is the winner.
