Become a Softball Coach at Your Local Little League
-
1
Contact your local Little League and ask whether there are any open positions coaching softball. You might have to start out as an assistant coach in the age group of your choice or settle with coaching a team of a different age group.
-
2
Talk to the head coaches of the current softball teams. Ask around to see who needs an assistant coach and volunteer for the job. If you really want to coach, you will find someone who will be happy to let you help.
-
3
Talk to the parents of the kids on your team. Show them that they can trust you with their children and that they are welcome to help out any way they can. If you are head coach, offer the assistant coaching job to one of the parents. Someone will be more than happy to accept.
Teach Softball to Your Little League Team
-
4
Set up a schedule. The basic Little League schedule will include practice twice a week and a game once a week. By keeping the schedule simple, you will earn the appreciation of busy parents who don't have to make a commitment for every day of the week.
-
5
Arrange for uniforms for the team. Ask parents for help organizing this or do it yourself. The team will most likely need hats and jerseys, although you may want to get socks, pants and team jackets, too.
-
6
Teach the kids the basics of softball. This is Little League and the most important thing for children to learn is the fundamentals. If at the end of the year, the girls have learned to always catch with two hands, you have succeeded at coaching.
-
7
Remember that the game should be fun. Remind the kids that they should have a good time. A little competition is good, but don't go overboard. When the kids have a fun, energetic season, they are more likely to return next year.
