How to Refinish Convertible Tops

As with all parts of a car, a convertible roof needs care and attention to keep it looking its best. Unfortunately convertible roofs, especially canvas and vinyl, tend to fade with age and start to look shabby. Metal roofs are easy to care for as regular car shampoo will make them look like new. Soft tops require more work but with a little bit of effort can be made to look brand new again.

Things You'll Need

  • Warm water
  • Soft brush
  • Fabric/ vinyl cleaner
  • Dry towel

Instructions

      Scrub the roof clean of all dirt using warm water and the soft brush.

      Clean the brush to make sure you will not just put the dirt back onto the roof.

      Apply the fabric/vinyl cleaner to the roof using the soft brush. Apply in liner not circular motions to get the best effect.

      Leave for as long as the cleaner manufacturer recommends.

      Remove all the cleaner from the roof using the brush and clean warm water.

      Pat dry using the towel.
