Duties of a team captain can vary depending on a coach's needs. Generally, the team captain manages equipment, communicates with league officials and with the team via telephone or email and helps the coach with administrative tasks.
Conditioning

A tennis team captain may be responsible for the team's conditioning routine. The coach will schedule a time for conditioning and the team captain will be responsible for planning and executing a workout regime with team members.
Communication

A team captain handles most communications with team members, officials and the public. The coach will relay his message to the captain, who is then responsible for sending emails or letters to team members, communicating with officials from the league or those in charge of tournaments and sending press releases to local newspapers.
Morale

Perhaps the most important duty of a tennis team captain is to provide moral support to team members. A team captain should be close to team members and provide or find help for them when needed. The captain should be an example for team members and be able to urge them on to do their best.
