Tennis instructors give lessons in a variety of settings. The lessons may be private (one-on-one) or group (two or more people at the same time). Instructors use various games and drills to improve play.
Technique

A tennis instructor teaches specific techniques to students. This includes the best way to serve a ball, hit a backhand and swing at a volley. The type and level of instruction varies with each pupil.
Location

Many places employ tennis instructors, including tennis clubs, parks, resorts and country clubs. A tennis instructor may also demonstrate equipment at an event or sporting goods store.
Education

Though the United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) does certify tennis instructors, experience is more important than education when it comes to getting a job as a tennis instructor.
Considerations

Most tennis instructors are tennis players who gained experience playing professional, college or junior tennis. Some continue to play professionally while teaching.
