How to Learn Bungee Jumping Terms

Bungee Jumping, the scream of extreme sports, has its very own vocabulary of terms. The term "Bungee" originates from the Bunlap tribe of the Vanuatu Islands in the South Pacific. This is part of an ancient ritual. Modern day Bungee Jumpers are physicists in action and the evolution of the language of Bungee can be seen in this.

The Platform is where you will stand before you leap.

    • 2

The Body Harness will be strapped around you. It is similar to the harness used in mountain climbing.

    • 3

Carabiners will be used to connect your body harness to the bungee cord. These are metal, hook-like clips.

    • 4

Ankle Jump, Backwards Jump and Nude Jump refer to how you leave the platform. Nude jumpers usually go on a special, nude day and they get to jump for free. Ankle jumpers have the bungee attached to their ankles.

    • 5

Free Length is how far you fall before the cord tension takes over. Essentially this is the length of the cord.

    • 6

Rebound is the first, second, and how ever many it takes, bounce from when the cord reaches the maximum length and twangs you back up.

    • 7

Body dipping is when you are launched over the water and your body touches the water and comes back out.
