Repairing a Split in Face of Snowboard

A snowboard takes a lot of punishment from the average snowboarder. Hard tumbles on the slopes and smacks against pipes, rails and other solid objects give a snowboard its share of dings, scratches and gouges. Sometimes, the face even splits when hit in the right spot. There are a number of steps that you can take to fix a split in the face of your snowboard to get you back on the slopes on good-as-new equipment.

Instructions

  1. Hammer the Split Closed

    • 1

Pound the split closed using a hammer and a flat-head screwdriver. Place the tip of the screwdriver behind where the split begins. Tap the screwdriver's handle gently to push the split closed.

    • 2

Repeat for the other side, if necessary.

    • 3

Tear off a piece of aluminum foil and crinkle it slightly. Run the foil over the edge of the snowboard, pressing hard as you do, to smooth the edge where the split was.

    Glue the Split

    • 4

Hold the snowboard down using a table vise.

    • 5

Separate the split so glue can be added between the split. Use several nails, such as finishing nails, to widen the split.

    • 6

Fill the split with urethane glue or epoxy resin, applied with a toothpick or frozen ice cream stick. Add just enough glue to hold the split together.

    • 7

Remove the nails and attach a C-clamp -- several if the split is large -- to hold the split closed. Wipe excess glue away with a paper towel. Allow the glue to dry overnight.

    • 8

Use aluminum foil to smooth the edge of the snowboard where the spit has been repaired. Use fine-grit sandpaper, such as 100 grit, if necessary.
