How to Build an Aluminum BMX Frame

BMX bicycles are one of the most popular types of bikes available in the market. You can make a personalized BMX bike at home. It is not only cheaper to make an aluminum frame yourself, but you can build a frame to suit your specific needs and make something unique. BMX bicycles can be modified according to your needs; if you are racing or just casually cycling, aluminum frames are fine, but if you plan to do any freestyle cycling, consider using chromoly tubing.

Instructions

    • 1

Take exact measurements for each part of the aluminum frame. You can measure an appropriately sized existing BMX bike frame or choose a frame on the Internet and note the exact size of the tubing.

    • 2

Cut the aluminum according to your needs. Where you make your cuts will depend on how big or how small you want your frame to be and on the overall size of the bike.

    • 3

Weld your frame. Start with the pieces at the front of the bike and then weld the pieces for the back. Make sure to move the pieces clockwise when you weld. You can use a jig to make sure that the pieces are welded properly.

    • 4

The alignment of the frame should be straight and not curved inwards or outwards. If you think that any part is curved, cut it and weld it again. Make sure that the frame is straight and has been welded properly before you proceed to the next step.

    • 5

Use a grinder to smooth the welding that you have done. When you are finished grinding the welding, sand blast the frame.

    • 6

Paint the aluminum frame according to your needs. Color it the way you like so that it suits your personality.
