How to Do the FMX Heel Clicker Trick

The FMX Heel Clicker is an easy to medium difficulty level trick and usually one of the first actual tricks a new rider will learn. While some experienced riders suggest practicing on the ground first, other riders feel the trick is easy enough to learn it in the air. Whichever route you take, learning the Heel Clicker can be a fairly easy endeavor.

Instructions

Practice on the ground. Some experienced riders actually suggest that novice riders first try the FMX Heel Clicker while still on the ground. You can do this by strapping your bike down on a trailer and practice the trick without actually jumping.

Stand up on the foot pedals. To prepare for pushing off, stand up on your bike with both feet firmly planted on the pedals. You're going to keep both hands on the handlebars throughout the trick.

    • 3

Jump up and off the pedals. Push off the pedals and jump as high as you can as if you were doing an FMX No Footer trick. When pushing off in the air, you also have to have good control over your motorcycle to ensure it stays straight throughout the trick. To do this, you'll use your arms to counteract the force your legs will put on the bike. Some riders prefer not to push off, but will simply take their feet off the pedals and lift their legs into position.

Bring your feet up and over your arms and the handlebars. Practice the move as many times as needed until you can bring your feet together close enough to click your heels together and then bring them back down onto the pedals to prepare to land.

Try it in the air. When you first start trying this trick, it's good to practice the No Footer until you can do this quickly and easily. This move is the first half of the FMX Heel Clicker in that you're going to stand up, jump off the pedals and spread both legs out to the sides of the bike. After you can complete this trick and are landing perfectly each time, then add the last element of bringing the feet together in front of the handlebars for the click.

Add some more punch. Once you get the standard FMX Heel Clicker down, try combing it with other moves to add to the difficulty level during competition. A common combination is the Heel Clicker Backflip where the rider does a backflip while in the Heel Clicker position and brings his legs and feet down after completing the rotation.
