DIY Luge Track

Luge is an extreme sport in which athletes slide down a snow track on a sled in a timed race. It is popular in the Winter Olympics and other winter competitions. You don't need to be an Olympian to build and use your own luge track. Though it can be challenging, all you need is the right equipment, a good plan and the proper location to build your own luge track.

Instructions

    • 1

Locate the best possible location for a luge track. A snow-covered hill or gradual decline is ideal. Choose a place with thick, wet snow.

    • 2

Sled down the hill in a test run. Make note of any curves, bumps or turns in the natural environment you can incorporate into your luge track.

    • 3

Move some snow to your desired starting location with a snowblower or large shovel. Build a starting ramp by packing the snow pile down and smoothing it out to form a launch ramp pointing toward the luge track.

    • 4

Sculpt your prospective luge track. Use your shovel or snowblower to create a winding, snaking track down the hill. Incorporate any natural turns or curves into the track. Pile the snow approximately 3 feet high along the edges of track to form walls.

    • 5

Sled down the luge track on a test run. Make any adjustments to the starting ramp, track and walls as needed.
