How to Open an ATV Course

Opening your own ATV course will give you an opportunity to use your ATV and potentially bring in revenue. Designing your own course will help you test out your ATVs and train if interested in competition. If you do not own the land in which you intend to build upon, it's important that you understand all the city regulations that are in place before you begin construction.

      Walk through and review the area that will become the ATV course. Draw out the blueprints as you walk the area, writing down each turn, jump and obstacle course. Make sure the track goes around such natural obstructions as lakes and heavily-populated trees.

      Speak with town officials, such as the Parks and Recreation department, to gather information about the regulations of building an ATV course. Even if you personally own the property, you must make sure that you are within all rules to avoid the consequences down the line.

      Use the shovels and chainsaws to remove trees, trunks and large obstructions from your course. You can hire landscaping professionals who can also complete the removal but you will have to pay for their services.

      Mark the intended course using the land markers and spray paint. The paint will mark the legal race area and the land markers will help the racers stay on course and know exactly where each turn is located.

      Remove any debris that was created during construction. You can recycle the natural products for further use and you must take any other waste to a junkyard.

      Test out the new course with your own ATV. Make notes of any rough patches or changes that you want to create. Continue testing out the course until it meets your specific demands.
