How to Make PVC Airsoft Mortar

Airsoft weapons recreate the feeling of real combat with realistic looking plastic weapons that fire pellets. Enthusiasts have come up with many innovations to add more realistic and excitement to their Airsoft matches, such as traps, grenades and rocket launchers. If you wish to flush enemy troops out of their hiding locations, you may want to create a mortar for your next Airsoft match. A pressure powered Airsoft mortar can be made out of commonly available PVC parts, a bicycle inner tube and bike pump.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut out the nozzle of the inner tube with the utility knife. There should be at least a 1-inch diameter circular piece of rubber cut out along with the nozzle. This extra material will be needed to forge an airtight seal when gluing the nozzle to the PVC.

    • 2

Put the 1/4-inch drill bit in the drill and bore a hole near one of the ends of the 4-foot long piece of PVC.

    • 3

Put the inner tube nozzle inside the PVC. The nozzle should stick out of the hole that was just drilled.

    • 4

Spread some epoxy onto the inner tube rubber and the PVC around the inside of the hole. Push the two together so that an airtight seal is formed. Wear the rubber gloves when you do this.

    • 5

Apply epoxy to the inside of the end cap and the outside edge of the tube near the hole with the nozzle. Press the end cap to the hole.

    • 6

Apply epoxy to the other end of the PVC tube and to the inside of the ball valve. Press these two together.

    • 7

Apply epoxy to the inside of the other side of the ball valve and to the outside of one end of the other PVC tube. Press the tube and the ball valve together. Allow all of the pieces to dry for the amount of time recommended on your epoxy.

    • 8

Cut a slit up the side of the pipe insulation. Start about 1/2 inch from the bottom and go all the way through the top. Cut two more similar slits around the insulation so that there are three in total. Wrap duct tape around the bottom of the pipe so that it is solid with the bottom hole covered up.

    • 9

Take the mortar out to the test location. Hold the pipe insulation mortar shell in your hand so the sides do not fall. Pour Airsoft pellets down into the shell through the hole in the top. Place the shell in the open end of the pipe.

    • 10

Attach the bike pump to the nozzle and pump until you can feel that a large amount of pressure is making the pumping more difficult.

    • 11

Hold the mortar, open end up and at an angle. Open the ball valve to release the air pressure and fire the mortar.
