How to Zip Line

Zip line rides and tours are a growing industry in tropical tourist locations like Costa Rica and Honduras, as well as in mountain areas of the United States. Zip lining gives you the opportunity to connect with nature as well as experience the thrill of flying through the trees like Tarzan. Reputable agencies emphasize quality equipment, safety and instructor training, along with an environmental awareness and taking care of the forest where the zip line is located.

Instructions

    • 1

Inspect all zip line equipment and gear before using it. Check for any damage, corrosion, splitting, cracking, stretching or abrasions.

    • 2

Pull the harness on, stepping into each leg hole. For harnesses with an attached chest harness, slide the shoulder straps over each shoulder and fasten the sternum buckle. Put on your helmet and additional gloves and knee pads, if needed. Make sure your footing is secure. Attach the tether on the harness to the zip line with a carabiner clip.

    • 3

Reach out and grasp the bars that are attached to the zip line. Hold tightly.

    • 4

Have someone hold you steady while you extend your feet and legs straight out in front of you, in a seated position in the harness. Get a feel for what it is like to hang from the zip line.

    • 5

Tell the person holding you when you are ready, then have him let go.

    • 6

Place your feet firmly on the ground or next platform to stop yourself.
