How to Install a Zip Line

Zip lines are used to make going over tough terrain easy. Zip lines have also become popular as an addition to a backyard gym set for kids and adults. Parts can be purchased separately or in kits and the pulleys may have different types of connectors, but the basic directions are the same, no matter what system you choose.

Instructions

    • 1

Clear away any trees or bushes between the beginning point and end point of the zip line.

    • 2

Attach the handle to the pulley through the holes in the sides using the hardware that came with the pulley.

    • 3

Slip the rope through the top of the pulley.

    • 4

Attach the rope to a tree or pole at one end of the run with an eye-bolt. Drill a hole into the tree or pole one size smaller than the bolt and screw it in by hand. Insert a large screwdriver in the eye and use it as a lever to twist it in good and tight. Slip the end of the rope through the eye and tie it tight with several square knots.

    • 5

Repeat the process with the tree or pole at the other end and pull the rope taut between the two ends before tying the knots. Cut off the extra rope.

    • 6

Attach the extra rope to the handle and pull it along the line to make sure it runs smoothly. You will also use this rope to pull the handle back to the start after each use.
