How to Make a Grind Box for Rollerblading

Belgian inventor Joseph Merlin famously introduced the roller skate to the world in 1759 by skating into a ballroom while playing a violin, then crashing into a wall when he didn't know how to stop. Since then, rollerskating, and its sister sport rollerblading, have taken the world by storm, with millions of adrenaline junkies taking immense pleasure in the sport's scope for performing tricks and pushing boundaries. If you want to start perfecting your tricks at home you can build your own basic rollerblading grind box in under two hours.

  • Strong wood such as pine
  • Measuring tape
  • Circular saw
  • Pencil
  • Wood-working glue
  • Electric screwdriver
  • Drill bits
  • Sandpaper

Instructions

    • 1

      Measure and cut two pieces of wood that are 6 feet long by 1 foot wide with your circular saw. Label these pieces "top" and "bottom with a pencil.

      Measure and cut two pieces of wood that are 6 feet long by 6 inches wide with your circular saw. Label these pieces "front" and "back" with a pencil.

      Measure and cut two pieces of wood that are 1 foot long by 6 inches wide. Label these pieces "left side" and "right side" with a pencil.

      Place the bottom piece of wood on the floor in front of you with its long side running horizontally.

      Form a box with the pieces of wood, positioning them according to the names you assigned them.

      Apply a liberal amount of woodworking glue to the edge on the left, short side of the bottom piece of wood. Press the bottom edge of the left side piece of wood onto the glue and hold firmly for one minute.

      Apply a liberal amount of wood-working glue to the edge on the right, short side of the bottom piece of wood. Press the bottom edge of the right side piece of wood onto the glue and hold firmly for one minute.

      Apply a liberal amount of wood-working glue to the edge on the long, front edge of the bottom piece of wood. Press the bottom edge of the front piece of wood onto the glue and hold firmly for one minute.

      Apply a liberal amount of wood-working glue to the edge on the long, back edge of the bottom piece of wood. Press the bottom edge of the back piece of wood onto the glue and hold firmly for one minute.

      Apply a liberal amount of wood-working glue to the exposed edges on the front, back, left side and right side pieces of wood. Place the top piece of wood on top of the box and press down firmly for one minute.

      Drill a screw into each corner of the top piece of the box with your electric screwdriver to firmly secure the pieces of the grind box together. Turn the box over and repeat this step on the bottom piece of wood.

      Sand any raw edges of the box with sandpaper.
