How to Varial Flip

The varial flip is an intermediate skateboarding trick. Ramp skaters execute the varial flip above the metallic coping of the skateboarding ramp, while street riders perform the trick over urban obstacles, including fire hydrants and handrails. The varial flip combines two skateboarding tricks known as the kickflip and the pop shove it. When learning the varial flip, many novice skaters practice in a stationary position. After getting comfortable with the necessary movements, learn the varial flip while rolling slowly.

Bend your knees to compress your skateboarding stance. Apply downward pressure with your back foot until the tail of the skateboard makes contact with the pavement. Jump vertically while lifting your knees.

    • 3

Rotate the skateboard by kicking your back foot backwards. Kick the toes of your lead foot against the inside edge of the skateboard. Raise your feet to allow the board to flip.

Allow the board to rotate 180 degrees. Lower your feet as the skateboard completes the varial flip. Bend your knees to absorb the impact of the landing.
